Medical process of falling asleep!! How do you fall asleep??

Each one of us falls asleep every day ever wondered how exactly do we fall asleep and what is going on with the brain during sleep. let's talk about some aspects briefly.

Sleep

  • An average human can spend one-third of their life sleeping

  • the best way to approach to understand sleep is the level of consciousness of the person

  • There are basically two conscious levels and they are awake and sleep

  • Awake can be further two forms alert [ β waves] and tired[α waves]

  • Alert awake is when we are busting at work and tired alpha waves are when we are about to sleep.

  • ASLEEP also comprises of two parts the N-REM & REM sleep Rapid Eye Movement is the full form of REM and it is a kind of cycle in which the eyes oscillate back and forth.

  • The REM is a deep sleep that has the same beta waves as when we are alert and awake.

  • REM sleep has also beta waves and it makes about 10 % of the sleep and the penile tumescence occurs in this stage each rem stage is approx 90 to 120 minutes.

  • The pathology of the rem sleep is basically MDD or Major Depressive Disorder in which the person goes into the rem sleep faster or the LATENCY IS DECREASED DURATION AND DENSITY INCREASED.

  • A person with major depressive disorder can not have a deep sleep and does not feel good the other day or after the sleep.

  • N-REM sleep is divided into stages n1, n2, and n3.

THE NREM SLEEP

1. the n1 or the non-rem 1

  • Comprise of theta waves.

  • It is the light sleep the n1 sleep has myoclonic jerks or movements.

  • It is 5-10% of total sleep.

  • The pathology that can occur in this stage is mostly obstructive sleep apnea in which there is a lack of breathing during sleeping and the person suddenly wakes up from sleep.

 2. n2

  • Comprises of the k-compressions or the sleep spindles.

  • It also has bruxism or teeth grinding and consists the 50 % of the total sleep. beta alpha sleep.

3. n3

  • Comprises of the delta waves it is the deepest sleep and the 10 -20% of the sleep is n3 sleep.

  • The length of the sleep decreases throughout the sleep

  • The pathology that occurs in the n3 is relatively serious mainly of SLEEPWALKING, NIGHT TERROR AND BEDWETTING occur.

  • If we get woken up from the n3 stage of sleeping development of SLEEP INERTIA occurs.

  • In which there are no normal cognitive behaviors and most people go back to sleep and they can sleep nonsense.

NARCOLEPSY

  • The disease is due to the deficiency of the compound OREXIN Or HYPOCRETIN-1.

  • The compound can be found in the CSF the symptoms are sudden cataplexy and daytime sleepiness of the person.

  • The caya[lexy can occur due to emotions and basically the person might lose muscle tone.

TREATMENT

  • IS MODAFINIL if the person is having hallucinations of having to be tired

so a good night sleep is necessary,

And stay, healthy safe, and informed.
